Melbourne - Fernando Alonso failed on the podium at the Australian Grand Prix after only finish in fourth position. There was no remorse from Alonso but complacency because he started the race with not smooth.
Start at the fifth position in the race at Albert Park on Sunday (27/03/2011) afternoon local time, Alonso made a mistake when the race starts threw her out into the 9th position. A beginning course that is not good for the runner-up last season.
But slowly the Spanish Ferrari find their performance could be pushed back and climbed into the top five. After a few times up and down position, finally Alonso could finish the race in 4th position.
A successful outcome for the world champion in 2005 and 2006 related to the performance did not convince the 'Horse Jingkrak' in yesterday's qualifying session. He was also praised the strategy of the team that judged by three pit stops which allowed him to "go back" to the race.
"I think the strategy work very well for us because many lost their positions at the start," said Alonso in Reuters.
"Thanks to two or three pit stops we did and we use all the potential that exists. We started at five positions and finished fourth, was quite encouraging," he continued.
"I think without incident at the beginning was, our final position will more or less the same, because I thought Vettel and Hamilton was too quick for us today," he admitted.
Alonso further assess the position of the 4th gained by not easy because he had to compete with Jenson Button and Mark Webber who pressed the lap-lap final. Alonso also had to provide resistance to Vitali Petrov to win the top three although ultimately failed.
"Petrov was too much to take risks when overtaking. So Jenson should avoid Vitaly and I have to avoid Jenson. So it could happen and we can handle it well,"
