guitar model gibson ephiphone 1959 Les Paul Standard

While all late-’50s Les Paul Standards are coveted today, most aficionados consider the 1959 Les Paul the “Holy Grail” of ’Bursts, the most desirable of all electric guitars. The Les Paul had already evolved a long way over the course of the ’50s, but by 1959, with the arrival of wider frets that allowed smoother and more dramatic bends, the Les Paul Standard had evolved into the epitome of the world’s most revered electric guitar. Because the cumulative effect of these minor but significant alterations to the design weren’t truly appreciated until the mid ’60s, when blues-rockers started to make the most of the fat, warm, sustaining voice of this magical guitar, the Les Paul Standard as we know it vanished from the catalog after 1960, with fewer than 2,000 examples of the Sunburst model having been produced in its three-year run. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of this archetypal model, Epiphone introduces the Limited Edition 1959 Les Paul Standard, a tribute both to the legendary Gibson solidbody, and to Les Paul the man, who would visit the Epiphone company in New York back in the 1940s to work on his famous prototype of the solidbody electric guitar, the “Log.”

Premium Components and Authentic Features
Epiphone's Les Paul Standard has been a favorite of players for many years. Starting with the same successful recipe, Epiphone significantly "steps it up" on this Limited Edition "1959" reissue. True to its heritage, the neck features an authentic, 1950's rounded neck profile. Often referred to as "the baseball bat," this neck feels beefy yet comfortable in your hands while adding warmth and sustain with its greater mass, factors that are further increased by its back-angled headstock. Epiphone hand-fits this solid Mahogany neck into the body with a historically accurate "deep-set" long neck tenon that extends well into the neck pickup cavity, simultaneously enhancing strength, tone and sustain. As is traditional with Les Paul Standards, the back of the body is solid mahogany while the top is a carved hard maple cap. To make this great Les Paul Standard more affordable, a premium AAA grade flame maple veneer is attached to the arched top to capture the true "beauty of the burst."

guitar model Epiphone ‘70s Inspired Les Paul Custom Blackback

The "Inspired by" 1965 Casino

During the recording of Revolver in 1966, John Lennon and George Harrison both acquired 1965 Epiphone Casinos. Representing the original state of this instrument, Epiphone's "Inspired by" 1965 John Lennon Casino retains its original vintage sunburst finish and all original hardware and appointments. Period-correct appointments on this model include the correct "burst" pattern on front and back, an accurate neck joint at the 16th fret (rather than the 17th fret), vintage Kluson-style tuners with small metal keys, a black plastic washer around the toggle switch, and the historically accurate rectangular blue label inside the upper f-hole.

The "Inspired by" Revolution Casino

Amid a growing trend for stripped "natural" guitars, John Lennon sanded down his Casino's original finish in 1968 and covered it with a thin, satin finish to create a natural (aka blond) look on the guitar. Around the same time, he also removed the pickguard and replaced the original Kluson tuners with gold Grovers, a popular upgrade of the era. Lennon first used his stripped "natural" Casino during recording sessions for The White Album in 1968, and this is how the guitar exists today. This instrument is represented by Epiphone's "Inspired by" Revolution Casino, supplied complete with gold Grover replacement tuners and removed pickguard and bracket (which are included in the case).

Get the Complete Package, and Support Music Education Too!

Both versions of the "Inspired by" John Lennon Casino come protected in plush-lined hardshell cases, and are covered by Epiphone's renowned Limited Lifetime Warranty and Gibson 24/7/365 Customer Service to keep you confident. In addition, as with all Epiphone Lennon guitars, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each model goes to the BMI Foundation for the John Lennon Scholarship Fund, which supports music education. Get your hands on a guitar that captures the look and sound of The Beatles in the late '60s, and support a great cause at the same time.

guitar model gibson Epiphone Les Paul Standard

Very similar to a Gibson Les Paul Standard, it has a solid mahogany or alder body, Set-neck mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard, Alnico Classic Humbuckers, Grover Machine Heads and a Tune-o-matic bridge. Is considered by some to be the flagship Les Paul model made by Epiphone. There is also "Plain-Top" model that features a plain maple top and a "Plus-Top" model that features a flame maple top.
